LA Kings - Hockey Development Team Member


JOB DESCRIPTION:

The LA Kings Hockey Development team is a co-ed interactive group that represent the LA Kings organization at games and events throughout the community including charitable functions, hockey development events and promotional events. Additionally, members of the team will maintain the ice during all Kings home games at STAPLES Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Raise brand and hockey awareness by attending LA Kings events and games to increase fan knowledge and hockey skills throughout Southern California)

  • Promote the Kings throughout local community at events (ex: birthday parties, community partner events, corporate events etc.); conduct games, interactive experiences for attendees
  • Execute hockey-related events at Kings Home Games (ex: pre game/post game skates & clinics and intermission skates
  • Support and serve as back-up for coaches on and off the ice in Hockey Development programs such as Camps, Clinics, Events, Leagues and Teams; May be asked to assist with hockey equipment if needed.
  • Maintain Ice during Kings home games during stoppages at play and intermission

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The LA Kings Hockey Development must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of ice hockey.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with children.
  • Ice skating and hockey skills are a plus, but not necessary.
  • Ability to teach the fundamentals of ice hockey and/or roller hockey.
  • Flexible schedule
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from STAPLES Center and area hockey rinks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and problem solve with limited supervision.
  • Must collaborate well in a team environment.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move about frequently as needed during events/games.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education:

  • High School diploma or its equivalency

Experience:

  • 0-1 years of related work experience

Should I register for the on-ice tryout or the off-ice tryout?

Off-Ice: For those who do not have on-ice playing or coaching experience, we still encourage you to tryout for our HD Team if you have a basic knowledge of the sport of hockey and an eagerness to grow the game in the LA Community. We will be hosting an off-ice portion of the tryout in our off-ice training center where potential candidates will be expected to bring energy and demonstrate their ability to coach hockey in an off-ice environment.

On-Ice: For those who have hockey playing or coaching experience, there will be an on-ice evaluation. Potential candidates will be required to show that they have strong skating ability and will also be asked to demonstrate and explain a few hockey drills.

Tryout Info

  • Date: August 14th, 2021
  • Attire: Athletic warmups & shoes. Skates will be available for rent. Helmet, hockey gloves and a stick are required for candidates with on-ice experience.
